Windsor sits out on the open northern Front Range plains in some of Colorado's most tornado- and hail-prone country: Weld County, where most of the town lies, is one of the busiest stretches of the state for severe weather, and the May 2008 EF3 that tore across eastern Windsor remains the costliest tornado in Colorado history.
